If a picture paints a thousand words, a video clip must paint about 10,000 words. I studied carefully the clip of the client handling her dog under Robert's direction, then went out onto a field and tried to copy exactly what had been shown. (with hands stuffed firmly into pockets) I admit I cheated a bit because I carefully scattered a few bits of kibble and a couple of balls before I started. However the outcome was amazing. My dear dog was never more than a few feet away and turned immediately on cue every time. All this without a word from me. I recalled her once by whistle, rewarded her with a treat, then sent her off again. A definite case of "less is more" Thankyou for sharing that with us. Can't wait for the next "lesson"

Aye Ballymary!!
But the next time You wont have to 'cheat', ??
Go to the same place, and do the same thing, and You wont need any food, scattered, the dog will do the same??? (simples) ;)
Reward with 'praise' (operant) ;) ,if it goes a bit 'wide', give a 'GRR'!! (Pretend your Judy for a sec) ;)

Morning Robert,

Am replying here to keep Phil's post free of my/our chatter! Have spoken to my brother in law and he's agreed to bring me and Rascal back from Scotland, so game on! :o :o I'll PM you so we can arrange to meet, by the way I don't know what car you drive but on the map it looks a lot longer than a twenty minute drive more like fifty I would say not that it's a problem.

Rascal has not done any obstacle work or a huge amount of water work so it should be interesting.

Look forward to meeting you.

A day with 'Rascal' (Wendy)
I waited until Rascal, had visited Polmaise, before we done 'Obstacles',and water work,as She had indicated these areas of training were of interest to her.
'Fern', the Yellow dog has now been coming to Polmaise for the last 4 weekends ,and is turning out to be a 'trained dog' ,ready for her next instalment ,which is to put all the 'training',into practice on Live Game!

Rascal,is not back from the Scotland Trip until the weekend,so I am sure she will add her 'own' comments!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I must say we enjoyed her company

Any how! back to Fern! I apologise for some of the shots being just out , I can confirm,She eventually did give a perfect delivery from a water retrieve ,without shedding water.
But then as I have said to many clients,"I am not a film maker" I train dogs
See what you think??

Thanks Polmaise, I thoroughly enjoyed watching those videos and also for seeing your philosophy in gundog training, it really is putting my knowledge into clear understanding.

More please, retrievers if possible seeing as I have one!
