Bella -What a life for a working dog

Post by Polmaise »

Bella was born 7 years ago bred from my own Bitch Cally who was retired 3 years ago at the age of 9, now still living in a life of luxury having treats and sitting by the fire at her now home since then.

Bella, like her mother has seen some sights in her life', and is about to see some more.
She is by far the best friend I have ever had!..with over 300 shooting days under her belt and never once have I ever been disappointed with her work.
Bella has probably picked every piece of game in the country from Snipe to Goose',and every one as sweet as the first dummy in training as a pup.
She has been used in pet training classes as a stooge dog' having to suffer all those yelping squawking piddling pet dogs, and used as a 'calming dog' with others who have aggression issues.
She has also been used as a 'pat dog' at the local care home with the elderly and those with dementia, but they always remember Bella.

Last season She was tested by the 'Young Pretenders', in the shooting field..Brill and June!..But Bella still outshone the eager young girls ,with her experience.
She is not being retired!! But she is going on to a very dear friend who although at the age of 82 is still active in the shooting field and has lost his younger dog to a traffic accident, and his older dog has died of old age.
Bella still has 3 or 4 working years in her,and a couple more living in a stately home to a peer of the realm. If he lives to 90? I hope Bella does too!

It is a gift that is necessary, for Bella and me,and my friend.
She gets collected on Thursday, and I wish her well.

A thought perhaps for those that work there dogs and the pack grows.

Cassie and Dee who are 11 weeks old will be moving into Bella's Kennel.

I just asked Ian if she was Bren's mother. Brought a lump to my throat that post, I remember coming up last year and Bren 'pushing' Bella out of the way so she could clamp herself next to your leg, and Bella accepting her even though they'd been apart for nine months.
Your friends a lucky man.

If she is half as loved and liked as Sam & Jed she will a happy girl.
I completely agree with what you are doing as we have been lucky enough to have 2 beautifully trained older dogs from you who make us really proud and happy.
