Re: Paul French

This method is not exclusive to gundogs and has been used for a long time in other disciplines by world renowned trainers Bart Bellon and Michael Ellis to name but two in Mondioring, IPO etc. There is also the use of it (in a slightly different context) in teh domestic setting. The former is about r...

Re: Lab runs around to escape situations she doesn't like

When dogs are anxious they select one of the following responses

Freeze
Flight
Fight
Fart about

Remove the worry and the "farting about/fooling around" behaviour will also disappear.

Re: What do we think of this?

Unfortunately I do NOT think I need to get out more. There can be no possible excuse for this type of behaviour and merely demonstrates that the "trainer" has few tools in his box. I am happy to lend him my GSD though so he can demonstrate the efficacy of his approach with him............ ;) Perhaps...

Re: What do we think of this?

I am not sure how "gundog" people differ from other owners/trainers? In any event this individual has a) demonstrated his inadequacy both as a "trainer" and someone who considers the welfare of the dog paramount and b) this footage has already been provided to the RSPCA and the Kennel Club. The disp...

Re: releasing the retrieve

Rascal's advice is good as sometimes what is actually happening is not what the owner think is happening and an observer can often identify key points which the handler has missed. In any event NEVER get into a competition with a dog over a retrieve. Any attempt to will just encourage a dog to clamp...

Re: Scared of other dogs

TBH if your dog does not like other dogs it is of absolutely no relevance as long as he is not bothering them and vice versa. Unfortunately if you intend taking your dog to shoots it does matter as the dog will be sharing all manner of vehicles with all kinds of dog either with or without the owner...

Re: Scared of other dogs

TBH if your dog does not like other dogs it is of absolutely no relevance as long as he is not bothering them and vice versa. If your dog is not confident the way you can increase it is my demonstrating that you are a safe haven and you will never put the dog in a position where it feels unsafe. Sim...

Re: At what age

There is no need to give milk to any animal post weaning bar humans perhaps.

I have never fed any of my dogs milk.

The only dairy product they get is live yoghurt which is far less likely to create issues and has a lot of benefits (IMHO)
