Frost Bite

Last day of the season, blizzard conditions to the extent that keepers day had to be called off at lunch time  In the evening noticed quite a few lesions on my young lab, on his legs, snout and on his testimonials :( Vet visit the next day resulted in anti - biotics which reduced inflamatio...

Re: Blinking

I agree with Helene, & you're asking for trouble if you are still sending him for retrieves he can see lying on the ground. You could give him a rest from retrieving for a week or so - the break would do him good & providing you were more inventive the problem may well have disappeared on i...

Re: Blinking

He is very sharp, really keen and I am sure it's not boredom as he runs out like a little missile. I suppose it isn't really blinking in that he doesn't switch off from the dummy and hunt elsewhere, he just stops and looks at me as if he isn't sure it should be picked or other observers think he loo...

Re: Blinking

No I haven't been stopping him when he is near the dummy well certainly not intentionally :) .

I can't make the B&B training this weekend but I think Jimmy and poss Shamy may be there. Disappointed to miss it as it was really good last time.

Re: Blinking

But if I want to prevent this becoming a habit, I have on occasion put the recall whistle on him and he has picked it and returned promptly, but would that just be like running away in the opposite direction. Perhaps he is anticipating a recall whistle? Or if I leave him to it and he blinks do I giv...

Hi Trekmoor, yes it was under his nose, he had spun round to face me and ready to return but just stood over it looking at me. :o

Blinking

Any suggestions to remedy this?

Seems to only happen on the occasional mark. One suggestion is not train on short grass but to use deep cover where he will be more inclined to have his nose down.

But lost 5 marks in test at weekend

Re: Hello from Newcastle upon Tyne

Hi Elaine

I am one of that group, pleased to hear you haven't given up.

Will probably start training again when the light nights arrive.

Will pm you my contact number.

Watch out for that Shamy though she wears strange smelling hats

Re: Shooting Etiquette

Thanks again.

On that particular day there were only 3 pickers up and after the drive one of them told me that the gun shouldn't have done that, consequently no urgency on that particular point.

Anyway I am there this week so if he is there again will be having words with keeper.

Cheers
