Re: Out tomorrow

I would personally go up to 30g 5s or at least 28g particularly for late season birds. If you shoot them in the head it doesn’t make much difference? (Sadly I’m not in that camp!). I’ve been all over the shop with cartridges in the past, and now shoot 30g 5s all season with the 12g. I wouldn’t want...

Re: Dog Transit Boxes

Hi. I'm also looking for a single box, to fit in a Range Rover Sport, and have looked at TransK9 and really like the ventilation, safety and design. Anyone any comments about TransK9? M I’ve two TransK9 boxes and can’t fault them. One we’ve had for about 8 years and it doesn’t rattle in transit, gr...

Re: Out tomorrow

I took both but I was out of the shooting, just one of those days. I used the 20g on 4 drives and the 12g on a duck drive. The 20g fits ok and I used a 25g 6 Supreme Game cartridge to drag a couple down. I struggled to have confidence in the picture but will persist with clays over the summer and go...

Re: A faltering out run

I've been away much of the week but took both the dogs out for a bit of training earlier today. I did a handful of marked retrieves with each dog, and apart from on the first run out where the youngster momentarily checked as if to stop at 20yds she did really well. I reintroduced the red tennis bal...

Out tomorrow

Last day out this season for me tomorrow and it looks like it will be a bit nippy. I'm at a local farm shoot and will take both dogs on the peg with me. I've been taking the old one out when training the youngster and she's been loving it and looking really sharp. I've decided to take a 20g side by ...

Re: A faltering out run

My current youngster who is coming on well, after doing lots if memory retreives as pup as a build up to blinds will go 1-2yds spin, look at me then think, oh you mean back and go back 🙄 Something to sort over spring I suppose Glad it’s not just me! 😁 Thinking about it more, after the lesson with N...

Re: A faltering out run

Is she spayed or could she be under the influence of hormones? Other than that CC advice is what I would do and possibly rein in distance or add variety and up rewards for these, not forgetting to loosen formality a little. She has just finished her second season, about a week ago. I’ll cut back on...

Re: A faltering out run

Not on the way out as such. I will stop her if she has overshot the mark or drifted left / right. I’m thinking we need to go back to some very basic seen retrieves and build up her confidence to go out hard again?

A faltering out run

When sending my 18 month old lab for a dummy, seen or blind, every now and again she goes out 20m quite slowly and then stops. I know as soon as she sets off she isn’t going hard and she comes to halt and looks at me. She did it today and I was unclear in my mind whether to just call her back and se...
