Re: Back

We’ve got a set of small rubber coated socks which strap on with velcro, Tarka tolerates it all very well. I tend to just put one on her back right leg and she then gets about the house no problem - it’s just the getting it on and off without getting unwanted affection! After 6 or so weeks of crate ...

Hello! I’ve been away for a bit, I had problem with my login then changed jobs and got stupidly busy, ridiculous really. Sit rep on the dogs - Mole the spaniel is on good form, full of beans and fit as a fiddle. Ginger the 3 years old is still hands down the weirdest dog we’ve ever had, unbelievably...

Re: Ginger

Progress on the delivery out of water. I've taken a change of approach and it appears to be working, albeit not proofed. Accepting the problem is me and the anxiousness I display when the dog is retrieving from water......I've just reverted to doing exactly as on land, standing a bit like a statue, ...

Re: Ginger

In a moment of weakness I’ve entered a working test…it isn’t until mid July, so time to work on a few things. It is only a novice dog test but will be interesting to see how we get on.

Re: Ginger

It was as clear as day Nick, when I relaxed (and fought my desire to grab the dummy as he exited the water) he delivered it without dropping, twice. Definitely me!

Went to Wye Valley training tonight and he was solid again. Another enjoyable session.

Re: Ginger

Great day with Phil Bruton yesterday. There were 8 dogs and handlers, all the dogs were novice 2 type level. We did some marks first up and happily I didn’t have to handle Ginger at all. We then moved to a mark over a fence about 40m away. The fence was circular which encouraged the dogs to go aroun...

Re: Ginger

A good humbling experience on Tuesday night. We did water retrieves and it didn’t go to plan. Made some progress and had one delivery to hand but a lot of dropped efforts on the way. I’m with Phil Bruton tomorrow for the day so will be interesting to see how we go.

Re: The difference between my two dogs

Sounds similar Nick, my bitch is much more wired and driven whereas the dog works things out at his pace - I’d be confident of getting the same result on a runner but via quite different routes. It would be dull if they were all the same! Might pop to the river today to do a bit of water work.
