Re: Why a lead is so important
I had a similar experience at our old house, opened the door and told him to wait, which he did, told heel which he did, then all of a sudden he bolted across the road into the field! Luckily I had checked the road prior to trying as you can see well, but it shows two things, dogs always choose to d...

Re: Introduction to birds
Mine where accidentle to be honest and runners! But i think the general idea is avoid pigeon as the feathers can be a bit strange and go with a dead small bird and go upwards

Re: Labs , how much do they eat ??
Thanks for the replies. My cocker eats very little and will often leave half until the next morning so I guess a lab is going to be different. £5 says your cocker is soon going to learn to eat up :-D Thats what my springer did when we looked after another dog! However hes back to his old ways now :...

Re: 3 way split?
However comparing marathon and sprinters is a bit misleading, they have fundamental differences in their muscle fibres which determines which event they are best at, the type and proportion of these is formed during developement of the foetus and determined to a certain large extent by genetics. Wh...

Re: What a load of tripe!
My dog gets kibble mostly, but if where doing a long mountain day, he gets a big lump of tripe mixed in, and the same the morning before we go. Id feed raw all the time, but kibble is so much easier and he does well on it (now . . . .) its just I like to 'know' hes full of tripe if the day could be ...

Re: Wetfoods
We tried mylo on wet food, pedigree, pets at homes own, butchers etc, as a pup he was on natures diet, which is costly but he did well. The butchers etc was tbh awefull (for my dog) he was having 4-6 tins of either a day, and loosing weight, it went straight through and stunk. The same happens with ...

Re: how to make your dog enjoy retrieving?
I dont think my dog was a 'natural' retriever as such, he was a natural run out to it at full tilt, and then on the recall a natural run back at me at full tilt kind of dog. Once he figured out i meant to bring the bloody thing back with you, he cottoned on that bringing it back, meant he could chas...

Re: Unexpected game experience
I think if a bird came into my garden mine would do the same. How ever i do think that they know the difference between work and oppurtunity. Like for example if you left a gundog outside with a dummy. It would probably carry it around for a period of time, but i suspect after a while the retrieve w...
