Re: Dog box bedding
Vet bed every time, lets the dogs dry. Easy to wash and dry. Have tried straw and shredded paper but it gets every where. Just cut a few pieces of vet bed to fit the dog box and rotate the dogs are dry by the time we get home. If I have only one dog with me I use a towelling dog coat as well for the...

Re: Picking Up Dog Injuries
Update, after a weeks rest and treatment I have been out 3 times since with the dog that ripped her leg on barbed wire, the wound has healed nicely but the scar tissue is still very thin and looking rather red today. I am not sure that the hair will grow back over it, but hey she ain't no show dog. ...

Re: power bars
A couple of nice fatty sausages at lunch time helps, But my take on lack of energy is that they get Dehydrated even in the winter, so keeping their fluid levels up must help. Some of mine do not like drinking in the back of the truck, they much prefer a muddy puddle. Feeding the right diet for...

Re: Picking Up Dog Injuries
Well I did try the cohesive bandage, it did not stay on for long!! It absolutely *issed down with rain for the first drive (you know the horizontal stuff). Just plastered some vaseline on it, seemed to have helped till the last drive across the river. Has just opened the edge of the wound, should be...

Re: Picking Up Dog Injuries
Out again today with dog that ripped her leg 2 weeks ago, it has healed nicely. Just hope it holds.
I was going to try some cohesive bandage to protect it, but probably more trouble getting it to hold in place.
Dave.

Re: Picking Up Dog Injuries
It makes me wonder, how many injuries are caused by barbed wire. I think my dogs are good at jumping, but I will if I can get them through a fence rather than over it, the problem is the return with a bird? Farmers around here are starting to put a strand of barbed wire not only on the top but on th...

Picking Up Dog Injuries
I seem to have had a bad start to this years picking up with injuries. I think we have got away with it in the past few years, but this year :brickwall: How do you all cope with it? Every week one dog or another picks up an injury. 1st dog.Nasty rip from some discarded barbed wire,(Farmers) out of a...

Re: Retrieving in the field.
Hi and welcome, Great advice as usual from Wullie, can't really add much to that advice other than get yourself away from the guns and pick up the birds that have made it to cover. Those birds that fall 100yds + behind are a real bonus to pick and it teach your dog to hunt rather than using its eyes...

Re: On Edge
Oh Dear,
And here we are thinking of upping sticks and relocating to Scotland for some great beaches, peace and quiet walks with the doggies in the hills.
Don't worry Wullie we won't be moving in next door
Dave.
