SYMPATHETIC GOLDIE TRAINER REQUIRED!
I am making some progress with my 19 month old Goldie in competition with the environment. I need some expert help please. She is fast (can reach the horizon in no time at all) but I have not been able to make training exciting/interesting enough to get her to really focus and love training. I use f...

Barking
My three year old cocker gave several short barks of excitement when she flushed a bird in heavy cover at the end of a long Drive in dense woodland. She is a fast and effective hunter. What training should I put in place to stop this developing and how do I go about it?

Protein Levels
Will reducing the protein level in the diet make my dog more biddable or is this "clutching at straws"

Re: Prey Drive
Hi Rascal Thank you for yr. interest. Yes, I will be working her together with her Mum & my 3 working cockers. I love my picking up and her Mum has been successful in competition too. I realise now that I didn't control the "chase" in the early stages when pigeons in the garden were fa...

Re: Prey Drive
Thank you for pointing out the point about the garden and her free use of it which I had not considered. I am at home during the day and the door is open and there are plenty of pigeons about. Maybe that was the start point of my problem. She wooed me into a false state of security as until she was ...

Re: Prey Drive
Thank you for your wise words. I have successfully trained the Recall and Stop whistle with my other dogs who are reliable and responsive to my commands.(Honest!). I have followed the same formula this time of moving from "the garden" to a "sterile" environment, stood by duck pon...

Prey Drive
19 month old GR has excellent basic skills in place in garden. Taken out into new environments, prey drive is huge. She will chase airborne birds and is oblivious to the Recall. I have found a safe area to release her and am working on the assumption that she will discover she can't fly and it is a ...

Re: Spaying
I would think the recovery time and discomfort for the bitch would be less? It will be interesting to read the paper - Thank-you.

Re: Quartering
I have worked on turning my shoulder i.e. I twist left from the waist dropping my shoulder - as she rockets past left, I twist right and she now takes that as a que and changes direction. Long grass is also a great help. It slows her down and seems to improve her focus on me. It's getting a tennis b...

Spaying
I have heard that it is now an option to have the ovaries removed as against a total hysterectomy. I have been told it is less traumatic, with a better recovery time. Has anyone had experience of this please with their bitch?
