Re: Learned Whine
Hi Julie, Thanks so much for sharing your experience with Herbie, it's always fascinating to hear how other people/dogs have managed to un-learn noise! I'm curious though (and please forgive me for being a bit thick), how has sitting near the game bag helped to fix his noise problem? I'm trying to ...

Re: Learned Whine
Polmaise If I don't have the game bag Herbie doesn't whine, nor does he when we're training just by ourselves away from our trainer. When we first started with this trainer she said Herbie would never make it into trials because of the racket he made!! Beside the point he's too old!! Now he's quiet ...

Re: Hello from Devon
There's Mell Brooks in the Liskeard area of Cornwall, not sure how far that would be from you?

Re: Learned Whine
Hi Lucy I had a whiner and I used two methods with him, the second one without realising I was actually doing anything. Firstly, I tried NikkiD's method in the highlighted topic but without the clicker. Herbie would only whine when in the sit position so when he started I asked him to go into the do...

Re: teaching left & right / direction
This is the 3rd time of trying to post from my mobile, blinking technology!! Thanks Crackered and Farmboy for the more in depth methods, but I think Herbie and I have a long ways to go before we get to the clock face stage ;-) Whew! That's supposed to be easy for a young dog Just as well as Herbie's...

Re: teaching left & right / direction
If you never fed Herbie for a day!!!? :o  ... Sat him up in front of you, with your hand raised (like you say), and in that hand, you had a big juicy bone ?...would he sit?... and if you threw that big juicy bone, to the right of Herbie, would he come running in to you barking? The shock wou...

Re: teaching left & right / direction
Thanks everyone for the replies especially the detailed info re clicker training left and right. I will speak to my trainer about this minor difficulty and refrain from doing the exercise until our next lesson so she can witness what happens. Without seeing the dog and the behaviour first hand its d...

Re: teaching left & right / direction
Wullie
He doesn't bark when sent from heel for a dummy nor whilst hunting. He sometimes whines quietly, usually when in sit, when we're training but compared to what he was like when we started a few months ago he has vastly improved on that front! I'm not sure how we managed to do it but we have.

Re: teaching left & right / direction
Hi Wendy We're still at the simplified route, throwing a dummy to one side at a time, using the hand signal before verbal cue to retrieve. In one of my lessons a few weeks ago my trainer suggested I slow down my hand signals as she thought I was going too fast and confusing him - which I did and he ...
