Ips, I haven't caught up with the thread over the last few years, but have you got/getting a new dog to do it all over again?

Re: Back after a break
It was a bit of a disaster..... First drive I kept him on the lead, then planned to let him work a bit of rough cover right at the end. As I cast him he put a pheasant up in the first few feet and completely lost his head, charging round all over and having a great time 😡 He did similar a couple of ...

Back after a break
Evening all, thought I'd say hi after being away for a few years. I was never an avid poster on chats, but I visited the page regularly and learnt more from the people on here than I did from any books/videos. I used to have a 3 labs that I used for picking up, but i lost one to cancer at 3 years ol...

Re: Excellence not perfection
I read it on fb, makes perfect sense. I expect 99.9% of working dog owners would be over the moon with 'excellent', and surely 'perfection' is in the eye of the beholder anyway

Thanks for the advice, I will deffo start using treats and the whilst together. The idea is that the puppy gets the treat f...

Re: Young dogs in the field
Well after reading the thread through so far it's all been positive and no one has mentioned any bad experiences with starting them young, so I wonder why it's not common practice in the UK and we aren't all doing it??

Re: Young dogs in the field
Thanks for the replies, it's been interesting reading them and cemented my thoughts on getting the next pup out on game ASAP. Ive read a few times about holding dogs back, and in some cases a lot of the older books advocate not doing much of anything until a year old. As naj said, a dogs life is sho...

Young dogs in the field
I learned many things from the members of this forum, and read many things that have made me think about how I'm doing stuff. One of the things I've been reading on here is about people who advocate taking young dogs out shooting, it's something which I previously haven't done but it seems to be mak...

Re: Driven trials
The first trial mentioned sounds spot on, I.an see how it would work well. Maybe we'll see more of this type of trial in the future, as grounds get harder to come by for walked up trials.
