Re: Bathing the dog
Whilst young, Merlin was frequently in the sea so bathing wasn't necessary unless it was a scrubbing out back when he'd rolled in fox poo! However, as he got older his swimming lessened and as I live in a house with a wet-room, I would walk him in and give him a wash off now and then when he'd gotte...

Re: random rant
Applying for jobs left right and centre and not even getting a simple 'sorry but you weren't successful' email from people, just silence!

And it's done.
For the first time in many a year, my house is empty of cats AND dogs. Sadly that's the part that will be the hardest to come to terms with.

Re: What would you do?
Thanks folks. Sadly Merlin's appetite has only continued to decline and he has started to vomit on a couple of occasions too which has the vet concerned that the tumour is now starting to press on organs or may be interfering with things. So I've decided to do the right thing and the vet is coming o...

Re: What would you do?
Thanks for all the thoughts and well-wishes folks. It really does help getting input from people. The vet was able to see us last night instead of today. Turns out the original vet he had seen was in last night and I felt he would have a good idea of the change in him, having seen him before. Whilst...

What would you do?
Hi folks, Before I start, I will say now that Merlin is going back to the vets on Thursday to discuss this sudden loss of his appetite and our next steps. I have a 13.5 year old ESS who has just been diagnosed with a mass attached to his spleen after displaying a sudden decline in his general wellne...

Re: When is the right time to PTS?
I'm in a similar position with Merlin, my 14 year old Springer who has just been diagnosed with a mass on his spleen. Right now we're waiting for biopsy results but at his age, I have already elected NOT to put him through the trauma of a splenectomy although I know that by going this route, it will...

Re: Exercise plan for an elderly, obese Springer.
Just an update as I've been quiet a little while. Merlin has lost almost 4kg by now, having dropped from 31kg to 27.4kg and we're on a solid pain management plan with flexible dosing of Metacam, complimented with a Joint-Aid supplement. I'm going to keep at it for now as I'm hoping to get him down a...

Re: Exercise plan for an elderly, obese Springer.
Just an update: Merlin has dropped to 29.6kg. He's on Metacam and Joint-Aid now and is doing very well on it. We're staying on top of the amount of treats he is getting and we're getting out for around 40mins every day (which is enough for him as he's pooped after!)

Re: Exercise plan for an elderly, obese Springer.
Merlin's currently on the Burgess Senior food. Admittedly we had him on a bog standard food for years up until very recently *guilty face*. I'm not sure whether it's had a significant improvement as he's always had a cast iron gut xD
