Re: Spaniel taking lines?
I was at a trial a while back when a chap sent his spaniel for a retrieve, he didn't send it straight out but he sent it to the left, then up, the right to where the rabbit was. The judges where impressed with this as it didn't disturb any rabbits further up the line. Made perfect sense to me.

Left, right, back where all taught on their own. You can tell her to go either one way or the other no problems. I'll aim to be more consistent with the sit on stop. Do I judge that on a basis by basis situation or ALL the time? We taught her blind retrieves and gave her confidence in where we are p...

Re: Fun training game/exercises suggestions
Not after training the stop whistle, well not on purpose, its all part of "the game" for her. so I was just after ideas, tasks, challenges that kind of thing - Make her mind work a bit more, keeps her out of trouble.

Re: Blue Roans
Maesydderwen Supremacy is apparently the only blue roan novice winner, although I'm sure I know of another one, but it might be more black and white than true 'roan'. According to the pedgiree info ours has Maesydderwen jackdaw as great great great grandparents. So there is some connection between ...

Blue Roans
Haven't seen many blue roans at trials is there a reason for this?

Fun training game/exercises suggestions
Our little cockers training is coming along pretty well, she isn't trial standard by any means but I am happy with her progress. She chases occasionally (only feather), she won't always sit on the stop whistle but she will always stop, she loves to retrieve and absolutely loves to hunt. Its all comi...

Re: Chasing Cocker - HELP
So is chasing acceptable in a young dog then? What about pegging? Or should the novice handler stamp it out immediatley?

Re: 5 month old coker and quatering
The more you train the luckier you get! If its fun then the pup will enjoy being trained. All pups need basic manners from day one and the sooner they get into water the better too, before they get old enough to worry about it. So by five months mine will be retrieving after a run in, doing a...
