My cocker was the same. It was more fun for him to keep the retrieve than give it to me. I sorted him out by sitting in front of me whilst I offered the retrieve to his mouth. I let him hold it for about 5 seconds whilst keeping my hands on the side of it to stop him running of with it. After the 5 ...

Never, ever go over the top telling them off. They respond amazingly to positivity in training. Oh and never show frustration.

My lad isn't mega hairy but gets a good amount of what I call bum fluff. All I do every now and then is get the clippers on him to trim his feathers and remove the bum fluff just to stop it from getting matted and full of twigs etc. Dead easy to do and I'm sure he does enjoy it.
