Re: blinds and non-blinds.

Yes, it is how you teach a blind retrieve but it is not a blind retrieve. It is a type of memory retrieve. Calling it a blind retrieve is a bit of wishful thinking on my part and on the part of many other gundog trainers. Wullie Wanted to raise this subject again. Is this not known as a permanent b...

Re: Reassurance

There's nothing wrong with adding dummy throws, per se, to teach drop to shot and/or fall and/or steadiness or any other behaviour but you need to understand that retrieves are intrinsically rewarding for gundogs and will strengthen any behaviour that precedes them. So if you don't ensure that you ...

Thats why I love this forum simple answers to simple questions :-D
On a serious note though. If teaching dropping to shot how do you get around yourself or someone else throwing a dummy?

Re: Reassurance

Thanks for the replies. Dont get me wrong, i prefer having an attentive dog but there have been couple of times where I thought you should know what your doing by now :? I'm inclined to put it down to anticipating a thrown dummy but wanted to hear some views on how to deal with it. Encourage, ignore...

Reassurance

Hi all. 12 months in and the cocker is turning into a lovely honest lad. I want to flag up something thats making me scratch my head and hopefully I can get some help. Set him off into the wind in various areas, woodland, grasses etc. and he has started to look up at me for guidance and the flow of ...

Re: sprocker spaniel

My Sprockers 5 now and has been beating with me for the last 3 seasons. If I could sum her up I would say: Good not great nose on her, takes good scent to get her worked up, super affectionate to the point of annoying :-D will put in a full day, rarely sick (touch wood) She's a spaniel at the of the...

Re: Pedigree database

Handsome little devil, ain't he? He seems well on for his age- he's stopping very nicely to your thrown dummies and marks better than my 2 year old! As you say, you could do with a bit more eye contact when he delivers. What's he staring out at? He does it when he's sat with no retrieve at the begi...
