Re: Retrieve as a reward.
I keep at it then, I think I’m lucky she enjoys it so much. Whilst on our walk today she started hunting in thick cover and went about 50m in. I didn’t recall her to see what she was doing and she returned to me with a dead rat in her mouth and tried to give me it 🤢 id be lying if I said I didn’t ga...

Re: Retrieve as a reward.
Just an update and looking for a bit more guidance. Im just looking for a bit of guidance of where to go next with her retrieving, I’ve seen videos where they stop their dog with a pip then guide them the right way with hand signals. Not sure how to go about teaching this though and if she’s ready ...

Re: Retrieve as a reward.
Just an update and looking for a bit more guidance. Heidi now delivers any dummy to hand so happy with that. She is also steady to them all (when it’s just me and her) needs work when another dog is there retrieving as well as she gets super keen and wants to run in, getting there though. I took Ips...

Re: My lab won’t swim.
Yeah I’m not worried about it, I’ll just keep taking her once and twice a week untill she cracks it. I’d like to see her enjoying it before I start asking her to retrieve in water. See how she gets on next time.

Re: My lab won’t swim.
I took Heidi to the hydrotherapy pool this morning, first chance I’ve had as I’ve been working this week. I explained to the gent that works there about the situation with her not knowing how to swim or that she can swim, he gets dogs in like her often. He got in the pool with her and for the first ...

Re: My lab won’t swim.
Are you of sufficient means to have one of those "lap pools" installed in the family manse? Or, you might take her with on hols booked to the States, where we have custom-dug ponds just for dogs "going for a swim" - well, going for miles of swims, sometimes just in one day! Not ...

Re: My lab won’t swim.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2lX4-B1zz5E This is as good as any video on this topic, forget the fact that it is a longhair, the theory is the same but yours is a lot keener than his dog!! I’ll watch this video after work. I’m going to take her to the hydrotherapy pool on Thursday. I don’t think ...

Re: My lab won’t swim.
I notice she had her collar on, do take if off when she swims as you never know what is under the water, a friend's dog was nearly drowned and had to be rescued. You could try putting the dummy just out of reach so that with one step she could fetch it and then gradually you can put it slightly fur...

Re: My lab won’t swim.
I was just about to post about a hydrotherapy pool that’s 10 minutes away to see if that was a good idea to get her started. Looks like you already answered my question!
