I don't see anyone suing eBay for selling DVDs!!

InvoiceI'm not sure how it goes with Libraries but on the back of most DVD's are words similar to this...

As you can imagine if we continued to allow such posts/topics then legal action would follow.
We have therefore removed all topics relating to DVD swaps and ask that no further similar posts are made.

This publisher was one of the main gun-dog-world dvd publishers who told us that they have restrictions on their DVDs beyond normal copy right. At the time we had a "swap club" going which was probably at best a grey area of the copyright laws and this attracted their attention. He then went on to say that his company actively patrols Ebay et al as they not only enforce the copyright laws but also restrict the resale market of their DVDs on the basis that if they do that then everything on sale as second hand is illegal, either by breaking the terms of your original purchase or by it being a copy. I suppose that this is worth their while in such a niche market and also small enough scale to allow them to police it.
We're not trying to be obstructive and it may not always be the case but we have no way of knowing so its easier for us to say its not allowed on here and it saves the moderators getting involved with legal discussions with publishers. Its not worth our time and effort or the hassle. The forum has sufficient "google presence" to make it easy for interested parties to keep an eye on...
