My wee boy

Post by scottishquine »

isn't such a wee boy any more.......he has done quite a bit of work at a local estate this year, and now is seen as a person in his own right. So he has had more beating days...he loves it so much and wants to be a Gamekeeper......on the Cock Shoot he even got his own peg this year, which he was so happy about..he has earned it....we got him a new shotgun as he finds my 20 bore to ickle now...   so he now has his own 12 bore.....which he shot some clays with a couple of days before the shoot.....turns out he's nae to bad a shot...on the big day he was given some pegs by the Laird.....and he managed to bag 3 cocks, winged one and sadly one hen....so apart from the hen he was a very happy boy...so was the laird he said he shot very well.......I was so proud of him, and so glad he got some birds..he showed he is more than capable of holding his own.....he got blooded by the Head Keeper with one of his birds he shot....to say he was smiling was an understatement...he got an amazing gift off of one of the lovely guys who bought one of our pups...the tweeds he wore 17 years ago as an underkeeper....and they fit Rye like a glove, you would think they were made for him.....he was so happy he has worn them ever day he has been beating since he got them, and has had complements from some of the guns about how smart he looks, he is just gutted the season is over..and to top off the day he has been offered a Modern Apprenticeship.....so lots to think of....    I am one very proud mum, and so happy my son knows what he wants to do..

Nice to hear of youngsters who are keen being rewarded by the keeper/estate owner, they are the future!

He does look very smart in his tweeds!

He looks very pleased and so he should.
A keeper friend of mine has a son of a similar age. He`s taken quite a bit of time off school this season to be part of the shoot.I wouldn`t normally condone that but this boy wants to be a keeper and he`ll be a bloody good one.
I`m pleased for your boy.

Great to see the young uns getting involved  .....Very smart :-D

My Step lad came out a few times, he is 17 now and more interested in his social life and blasted Xbox  :brickwall: :brickwall:

I wonder if i could adapt a clay trap to launch the Xbox

My 11 year old is interested, and is coming out next season.......And the 10 week old nipper  ......well she has no choice, she will be out from an early age ;)

Proud ! so you should be and well done. All my 3 girls go picking up or flagging or beating and they truly love it, the youngest whose nearly 17 was talked out of keepering by her dad ( no life for a girl he says) so she has taken up midwifery but well done your boy.

thanks for all the lovely replies guys, have to say Rye has also had a few "sick" days from school this season....normally I would also be totally against it....but it isn't for something silly and worthless. The way things are just now for jobs, it is quite a thing to be offered. Just a bit scary that he could be leaving home very soon.....  thankfully he wouldn't be too far away for us to help him out. Have to say when he put on the Tweeds he looked like he had worn them all his life.....what does make me laugh is he can't remember to clean the dog poo off the grass, but he can spot decoys and deer a mile away!!!! What makes me the happiest is know my son has a passion for something and fingers crossed he will get to live his dream.....wish we could all say that.....
