Post by cockermadblonde »

how do you guys come up with names for pups?

in the past ive spent hours coming up with names for my boxers but seems a lot of spanners just have one name after the breeders affix....

I always pick a theme - birds of prey, herbs, spices, trees, peppers, one litter were all called irish names because they were conceived on St Patricks day. Some people use letters of the alphabet. Basically use a theme so you can recognise whioch litter a pup came from.
Anything I have posted on this forum is my copyright - I will not unreasonably withold permission to cross post but please just have the courtesy to ask first

we start with the alphabet, so when i see owners of pups, they can tell me what the kennel club name is and i know who the parentage is.

One thing that confuses me, is that with gundogs we have:- (Affix) (kennel club name) BUT i've seen show dogs & other KC reg pet dogs are different? such as the ESS that won BOB at crufts last year was SIEGER'S EXTRA POINT.

any ideas?

I would guess that the breeder doesn't have a kenel club affix.
Inside every springer, no matter how well trained, is an idiot trying to get out

Isn't the Sieger's the affix? Sieger is german and means winner...

Then no doubt their registation body has differing rules and permitted structuring of names to our own dear Kennel Club.
