The best product to use is saline, failing that, salt water or in the field use copious amounts water to clean mucky injuries. DO NOT USE PURPLE spray or terramycin powder if the wound need suturing and at all times never use anything caustic like hydrogen peroxide as it will damage the tissue. Purple spray and Terramycin powder is a "b...dy" nightmare when trying to suture a later date, it messes up the suture site damages tissue and can delay healing. By all means use them on horses where You don't tend to sututre Minor wounds as much, but rather treat medically .
Hibiscrub is usefull for cleaning blood and detritus away from wound sites as is simple soap, but the wound itself should be flushed with saline prior to suturing.

Glad you mentioned the purple spray. Just as well the MIL used it to spray the chrissie decks a nice colour!
