ANOTHER QUERY SORRY...

Post by 086*downey »

Bitch came into season and due about now.
Stud dog showing some interest – he is not experienced this will be his first litter (6 years old) last two nights he has after some time attempted to mount but just as he is about to enter my bitch sits down or hops away bumping him off??
My bitch has just had one previous mating a couple years ago
When this happens he tunes out and seems to lose confidence and doesn’t attempt again
Is this normal enough? Maybe bitch just not quite ready yet?
Any suggestions?
Thanks

I would say she is not quite ready ... when she is he won't know what has hit him - but he'll soon learn ;)

Do you know anyone who is experienced to help you, Providing the bitch has come to her prime time she may need to be held in a standing position and the dog may need to assisted with his entry.

Last night a couple of times she stoodand tail curled a bit to the side but when he tries to mount she moves or sits
Tried her on the lead and she stood but male only attempting when they are 10 yards away on their own
Might try holding her up this eve and help him but dont want to put them off either
Thanks for the advice will post tommorow if any luck tonight

Time and patience. Check she has no soreness of her vulva which may be putting her off and consider using a little lubrication for her too. Is the dog experienced? Some are more persisten than others in covering a bitch.

I'm told (I wasn't there) it took my experienced stud dog Dax about two hours of wooing a reluctant bitch yesterday before the bitch accepted him. She sat or even rolled over to begin with and snapped at him when he tried to sling a leg over ..... somehow that sounds familiar to me !

you may need a better stud dog, or hold the bitch up at the right time,

I think a combination of MTS and rickyspringer`s replies may be the way to go. If you cannot support her without putting the dog off, you need a more experienced and assertive stud.
