Newbie!

Post by Huntermissile »

Hi

I have just come across this forum as I have been looking for some information and I thought maybe you guys could help. I have a Germand Short Haired Pointer who is now 4 months old. He is a gorgeous dog with oodles of energy and very bright. I would love to get him in to Gun Dog training but Im having difficulty in getting anyone to reply to any emails or calls I have made so I was wondering if anyone here would know of any training sessions that might be taking place in Berkshire? I know that my GSP would love to do the trials and would be very good, he is very obidient (Well for 4 months anyway) just full of energy!!.

Thanks for your help in advance!

hi can't help with training down your way, but try GSP club, as they have training across the country, also look at HPRFT http://www.hprftinfo.co.uk/1748.html
they have lots of info. also look at other HPR clubs such as weimeraner club GB, as they run plenty of training days as do HPRBA.
suggest you also post on myfastforumhpr as they may have member down your way that can help.
good luck with your pup.

The GSP club runs training classes in many parts of Britain , try Googling for them. The essentials for training these breeds are land you can hunt them over - legally  - and some game, preferably birds such as pheasants, partridge and grouse on the land you hunt over. You cannot train these breeds of dogs to point using dummies. At this time of year birds are beginning to nest so they should not be hunted until maybe August ...... and again , only if you have permission.

Meanwhile get your pup retrieving dummies keenly and teach it the recall whistle .

Hi, I am based in Berkshire and have been training with the Chiltern Gundog Club. They may do training for GSP's. Its worth giving them a call as they were very helpful with me.
