A bit off topic but we (Finns) have this system that trailing dogs needs a quality prize (Good) from shows and show dogs needs to go thorough a field ability test (past or failed) or get a third prize from our field trial. So all our working cockers need to go to a dog show if the owners want them to be field trial champions (of course the field merits need to be done also  ). Yesterday we had the cocker speciality show and two workers got a Very Good (prizes: Average, Good, Very Good and Excellent). It was very nice that the judge really appreciated the working dogs and their comformation.

And to the topic: we actually have few show cockers with merits from field trials. Not fancy merits but anyway. And people do a lot of agility and tracking with them and some obedience also. They are very good to those who don't need a working dog but a sporty dog as a pet.

Keeper also has a Versitile title agility hunting confirmation and obedience
as well as a couple days last season of rough shooting pheasants and partridge
Nancy and Keeper are a nice team. The dog is very nice - very persistent and biddable. That may have been only the second or so run in test in the field. In any case, both the dog and Nancy were still very green at that test. She was very nervous, but has continued on with that dog, and is having great fun while doing well. I was at that test (and can be briefly seen on it with a dog of my own).

There is a dedicated group of owners in the U.S. who work Amer. Cockers at hunt tests primarily from show lines. We continue to strive to improve the lines working qualities, but have largely resist a "split" in the breed.

GATImber thanks for the shout-out.Nancy and Keeper train with me Weds and Sat. He,Keeper is now steady and has 2 legs toward his Senior Hunter. Doing well on short blinds.
