Hi all I was just sitting have a glass of Vino wondering how everyones season is going to date. My first Pheasant day is not until 12th November, but I ave been Wildfowling with some success, myyounf Lab.Gunne rpicking his first ducks and last Thursday, under the moon his first goose.Nothing very difficult, but good enough. I've noticed my older dog getting a little jealous and has started to creep forward at the sound of the gun but I've been out steadying again to cure this.
How is eveyone else fairing? The weather here has been appauling not alot of fun beingout either training or shooting.
Nigel

Re: Season so far
Going Well here, loving being back out on the ground. I have so missed the banter through the summer months

My older dog is quite the opposite, since i've had my younger pup Willow, Fizz has taken more of a back seat preferring to walk to heelnaustin wrote: I've noticed my older dog getting a little jealous and has started to creep forward at the sound of the gun.

Re: Season so far
I've been out twice and now and OH once- first day for me was picking up, dog only had one retrieve and it wasn't one I particularly wanted as it was a strong runner- not a nice gentle start to get back into the swing of it! her handling was NOT GOOD either, and I was relieved I had a lead with me, but she didn't cause any major problems.
second day for me was beating with her- she vastly exceeded my expectations and I'm now considering doing more beating than picking up!
OH had a brilliant day out picking up with the old lad, including several tricky birds from water. not bad for a dog 2 months off 13! he's not quick, but he certainly knows his job. Just have to be careful with him as he's deaf, but he responds to hand signals brilliantly.

Re: Season so far
My second day beating is this Saturday and can't wait. This is my first season and loving it, was thinking of shooting but much prefer beating and picking up as appose to standing on a peg on my own.
I have a 16 mth old ESS who's nearly ready for his 1st shoot once assessed from my gundog trainer (fingers crossed).
The shoot I work on is in N Yorkshire and the first shoot we bagged 48 Pheseant/Partridge and 4 hares (5 guns).
Hope you all have good and enjoyable season
