Re: A specific Springer quartering question
One last attempt at a sensible answer before I go to bed then
Should I
a) Stop her and recast
b) Be glad for now that she's 'going' and let her range a bit wider figuring out the scent
c) Use the turn command and jump on her if she ignores it
d) Other helpful suggestion not yet thought of
Fingers crossed

Do you mean my one 'pup'? Or Rascals?
You said you were hunting the wee dog, and it got hot on scent?,..right?..then you stopped it!?, with one p(i)p.
I ask the question ...'Why'?...
You say 'to gain control'?
....
How have you 'triggered' created/conditioned, the hunting pattern?...with this p(u)p ?
Re: A specific Springer quartering question
Recall and recast deffo don't go out and tug her lug....
Hoping predictive text doesn't feck that last sentence up...
Rasc....
PS two pups are better than one...

Re: A specific Springer quartering question
On bare ground with no scent she turns religiously. In this new environment, with some scent she started to pull out on it. Therfore, she is no longer quartering, shes hunting foot scent. So, for the same 'get on' trigger word that yields a nice pattern on grass, i'm getting a different result no??Polmaise wrote:Seriously Andrew?Crosshair wrote:Now this is getting confusing

So I blow the stop whistle to break her concentration away from the scent and back on to me so I can then ask her to please carry on with what she was supposed to be doing.
She wasn't out of control, but she was no longer following the hunting pattern.
Re: A specific Springer quartering question
So....Walk backwards?
Will she come in a bit?...then will she go off 'back on that same scent that got her juices going?..only this time...it's within the pattern range?
then repeat and rinse

Ok, gotcha
Will definately give that a go. If she's nose down in a Bracken patch though, she might get another ten yards before she realises
