acme 210.5 ok for a lab?

Post by crowdie2013 »

Apologies for newbie stupid question!
Picking up my lab pup this week; Ive ordered a couple of acme 210.5 whistles but have read a few things online suggesting a 211.5 should be used with a lab? Went with the 210.5 having read another online post- does it really matter or are the differing tones more for controlling a number of dogs at the one time?
Thanks :brickwall:

It really makes no difference what tone you uses as long as you consistently train the dog to one whistle and it understands what the whistle means.

It doesn't really matter. 210.5 is a higher pitch, so slightly quieter. So traditionally used with spaniels which are (supposed!) to be worked close. And 211.5 is lower pitch, louder and better for working retrievers at long distance. That's the science behind it. But there are retriever folk who also use 210.5.

As others have said the 210.5 is commonly used for Spanners. But i guess it don't matter what you use as long as you train the dog consistently to the same tone :-D I may try a trumpet for my next dog to prove my theory

& use 'feck' & 'arse' instead of left n right?

I use a 210 1/2 on both my labs & cockers.
