Agree weight wise she looks fine, I'd start with having a trip to the vets for some blood tests to ensure there is nothing untoward going on...

1) His weight/condition looks ok.
2) Dogs will use more energy than normal on cold days, especially wet, cold days.
3) What is the shoot day feeding regime? I like to feed at least 2hours before work,again after work and their evening bone! Mine also get a snack of dog biscuits at lunchtime.
4) A dog coat is essential for lunchtime or long breaks between drives if you dog is prone to getting cold.
5) Most collapses are caused by dogs being not fit enough for the work asked of them or not being fed appropriately, but a check up at the vets should put your mind at rest over heart problems.

Thanks for replies, spoken to them today, he isn't fed at certain times just has his food down and eats when he wants so it is possible he may not have eaten much prior to going out. Not sure whether he is fed more before going out on a whole day shoot. He has a dog coat for shoot days and wears it, but this was just dad taking out alone for couple hours, so he didn't take it as thought would be home.
Their last spaniel was a real piggy so it had a feed regime, whereas Jet isn't and would tend not to eat a whole meal at one go hence how he is fed. Suggested the vet but he has been recently for a check and vaccs so at the second they seem to think could be down to not eating/the cold so are going to wait for now, although I am going to speak to our vet on Wednesday when Kemble goes for her jabs and see what he suggests, if he wants to see him then possible they may rethink.
They are going to look into one of the jack pyke coats and make sure he has eaten and eats during the day while he is out, if happens again he will def be going to the vet.

I fed mine a simpler way when on kibble. In the end I decide to train him to eat given meals, see this post here;

For long mountain days, particularly in the cold, i feed lumps of tripe with his normal meal the night before and morning we go out. I also take snacks out for him if I feel he needs it. If I left my dog to it, I'm pretty sure he would use more than he consumes without my input!

Best of luck!
