Getting in /out car

Post by Terry »

I ask this question on the wrong thread, I was watching Edward Martin DVD re Cockers and he was showing a 6 month old cocker getting in/out
of his Landy, I have to say he made it look easy.!! Anyhow my question is Bertie is now 7 months old and I am nervous getting him to jump in/out of our cars. One of Our previous dogs developed stiff front legs (goldens) i think poss from jumping out awkward , so i am a little unshore when to start to try to introduce this..

I worry more about them jumping out than in Terry TBH but I think by six months I'd be letting the little blighters jump in and out..

I too understand your concern Terry. Just my opinion, I go for getting the control straight from puppy stage IE they wait for me to either lift them in or out, then once you have the control in place it's deciding when is the correct age for letting them jump. But even then it's on my say when they go, less chance of them hurting themselves then.

Try feeding the lab in the car

Its something I wonder about as well, at the moment I lift Bryn in and out of the pickup, he has the back seat on a harness that runs on the seatbelt, even when he's older I'm not sure I want him jumping out onto tarmac or concrete. No problem getting him into the vehicle, getting him out is another matter
