Getting dog to hunt close and not pull away
Just wondering what most of you do to get a spaniel to stay in close when hunting?? And not pull to far in front.
Re: Getting dog to hunt close and not pull away
Keep them close as a pup when hunting, occasional tennis ball

I normally shout and bawl and give a rendition of jingle bells on a range of whistles... doesn't make much difference though

Its a combination of things. Teaching it to love tennis balls and hide them close when hunting. Teach it the difference between working and playing. Solid stop whistle and recall.

I blow the Dawn Chorus on the whistle
I use tennis balls if I'm in real bother but not all dogs like them.
