10 month old cocker pup clip
Re: 10 month old cocker pup clip
no I havnt used that area at all , that was the first time hes ever been there , thats a very small part of a 2000 acre commercial shoot that I can train anywhere I like and there is game present everywhere on it still including that area , the dog is still very young so at this stage i am not expecting maximum speed (it would be nice admittedly) its his nose down and his busy action I am very pleased with , thanks for your comments so far

Don't get hung up on speed. Your young dog is hunting his ground well, thoroughly and most importantly under control. Drum this in now, and ensure he is with you and respects the turn whistle. This will pay dividends when you start to train on game where naturally his pace will increase.
Too many people place a lot of emphasis on speed right from almost the nest stage. We all like to see a busy spaniel but what we are really after is style and pace, this is different to raw speed.
In addition, I have seen many novices who are thrilled with their flying machine at nine months old as is fires about at top speed in a sort of pattern. When the wheels come of once it's on game they often change their opinion on two things. Firstly is speed such a good thing and secondly whether they have in fact trained the dog at all!
Nice little dog.

Been there got the T shirt!!!!
I would have been over the moon if my cocker had been hunting at that pace and stile at 9 months.
Lovely wee dog
