New Training Ground / live days

Post by rickymac14 »

Hi all,

Need to get some feelers before i go ahead with something.

Have a meeting tomorrow with a friend who has been given the chance to take over a new shoot ground, he has asked me to come along with him in the view that he doesn’t want to make this a syndicated shoot as the last few times this never took off hence why we have been given the chance to take this over.

There is a few things we could consider

• FYI -Location is South Kent
• Is there enough people in this area or surrounding areas to turn this into a training ground?
• We was thinking of i.e. approx 10 live training days (On partridge) this would only be open for spaniels & cockers 10 men 4 guns??
• We have also considered groups of say 5 thou the weeks in the trailing season say 20 bird days between you depending on costs??
• What is ave cost of training days paid for handlers??
• What is ave cost paid for guns at live days??

It’s all up in the air but would anybody be interested in these training days on scented grounds & then live days August /September if we were to take this on??

Just to get some thoughts from everyone on here would be good weather there Negative or positive :-D

Ps we would be asking a few friends professional dog handlers that have won either cocker & springer champs to do these training days obviously we would pay them a fee for their service but it should be invaluable for their experience.

whats you thoughts??

Live game training days down Wilts / Dorset areas for up to 40-50 birds are approx £100 for handlers and £40-50 for guns. Too far for me but thought you'd appreciate this info.

I would be interested ;)
the going rate for the kind of day you describe is around £80.00 per handler and a similar price for the guns, in the sussex area , you know or have met somebody who does it very close to the mid sussex ground you were at a few weeks ago , maybe drop him a line and pick his brains , he is a member here but hasnt been around for a while ;)

I'd be interested in this in the future - Merlin and I aren't of a standard to do a novice working test yet so live days are definitely a no go for a while... Depending how advanced any training days were they might be an option though?

sure you'll have plenty of Interest Ricky,i can think of quite a few handlers in the south east, myself included ,that would be interested. quality guns that are used to shooting over dogs are a bit harder to find. keep in touch.
