Well, its been just over a month now with my new Altberg work boots, I've had them on every working day, out walking on my camping trip (Don't tell my boss ;) ) and even at a couple of muddy agricultural shows :-D The leather has started softening, and they are lovely, comfortable and dry, i'm more than happy with them.

8 months on, and they are great. Stopped wearing them at work now, managed to get another new pair of Gortex boots for work.

So, the Altbergs are being abused on the moors and woods around here and they are doing their job brilliantly.
Spent last Sunday on a fox shoot, terrain was still fairly boggy from the 'summer' rain
Feet remained comfortably and dry all morning :-D

I have a pair of the Black Islanders that I bought about 2 years ago.

Always suspected that the leaked a bit but never did anything about it until Sunday afternoon when I filled both boots up with water.

It came pouring out, not along the seams but just straight through the sides of the boot!

Not sure if the new ones are any better but the ones I have are rubbish!

Lundhags - not the boots they once were but still better than 95 per cent of the crape out there! I like the scout best but have had 3/4 pairs of professionals - Hanwag trapper gtx Alaska gtx , on my forth pair rate them better than miendles, I wear boots everyday and have had every make under the sun!!!

If the waterproof membrane is breathable is the water not supposed to come out from the inside...?

Not sure actually, the fact that it comes the other way as well would suggest that something is amiss.

Just did the filling up with water test to see where the water passes through

No. The membranes have microscopic pores that allow water vapour, ie sweat, through but not water molecules.
