A pup is worth as much or as little as someone will pay for it. If people didn't do it for the money, they would sell pups for a small amount to people they thought would give them very good homes.
Inside every springer, no matter how well trained, is an idiot trying to get out
If you breed a litter of quality pups and make a few quid what's the problem?
Given that shite to shite costs about £50 less than a well bred pup from proven trialling stock perhaps the issue is that rubbish is being over priced, though I have seen marked increases in the asking price of Springers recently, £500 being quite common.
Cockers cost more than Springers, who knows why but ultimately the market will dictate the price, its all about supply and demand.
supply and demand usually indicates that the supply is less than the demand so the price has to increase, then how come if cockers are more common and more popularly bred lately is the price higher than springers? (on the whole). i personally am always looking for the better shooting dog that trains itself and takes anything i throw at it, the ess is as close as ive got lol

Demand for Cockers supports prices of between £500 for a couple of beaters dogs to £1200 for FTCH x FTCH.
That is supply and demand, if you can supply them there is a demand that will support those asking prices.
My new springer pup is costing £550. I wouldn't say that was to much as I simply wouldn't buy it if thats was the case. I just dont get the idea of people moaning about making money on pups, after you take all the hard work and expense that goes into making the bitch something you want a pup out of I believe its only right to. Would I pay over a grand for a puppy? Not in a million years no but good luck to those that do.
