I have 2 male springs both bred by very very highly thought of breeders
Both ftch x ftch (both bitches incredible one is lunar star and the other annivkview Anna)
But neither would win a trial let alone get a ticket..... Which is why I was given them both as beating dogs

Far too many novice bitch owners who line with the latest top of the tree dog that have no idea what so ever

If the top guys can't get it right all the time then novices have no chance, and perhaps putting breeding restrictions on is the best way forward for the breed

Think most people on this forum are passionate about their particular breeds, and when buying a pup would do their research, preferring to buy one from someone with a good reputation etc etc. But for the majority of people looking for a pup, they will buy whatever they see advertised that looks good. That will always be the case, and it's up to passionate people like us (and the top breeders!) to keep the breeds as true as possible...so that we at least know where to find a decent pup when we want one!! :)

there you go
if people keep breeding from crap they will get crap

simple
But hang on. To be fair, the breeding is not crap. You have a proven sire and a bitch from proven stock? I can't see the problem? Looking at the facts IMO one could do worse. Just because one person says the dog is bad after seeing it once, is this any reason to write off a whole litter? Again - Has anyone chatted to the breeder to get a feeling of his thoughts behind the mating before he's tarred and feathered based on opinion alone?

I have read it (as well as the others on this thread), hence my posts on the subject.

Still fail to understand reading between the lines, how the breeding is "crap"?

Gawd! I go out for a walk, its a lovely day and the view is beautiful, the dogs enjoyed themselves apart from when the Cockers had a collective urge to investigate that baby wabbit which stupidly sat and gazed at them like moonstruck hare. I come back all relaxed (not so sure about the Cockers) and look what's happened! :brickwall:

The bitch has apparently impeccable breeding so carries good genes even though the mix in her may not be 100% perfect, it seldom is. She didn't make the grade for trialling, for whatever reason, if she is a sound shooting companion, ie no hard mouth, no noise and reasonably capable at her job, even if not good enough for competition, should she simply be speyed and discarded? Should we all be wanting manic hunting dogs which will win trials but not be at all relaxing to be with the rest of the time? Not for me that's for sure. According to most folks a smattering of FTChs should be sought in the pedigree of any pup one thinks of buying as it should be an indication the dog should be quiet, soft mouthed etc. I agree with that but by the same token is it wrong to breed good shooting companions for the vast majority?

Or am I and a few others missing something? Is this more to do with puppy farming from anything available rather than whether the bitch should perhaps, not have been bred from? I think anyone keen to trial will do their homework and buy from suitable lines, us keen workers of dogs also do our homework and buy what we hope will make a good dog for our needs. Those who buy without thought are the ones which need educating (in the nicest possible way of course) and this is something this forum can do. Preferably without putting anyone out of a job in he process!
In life, it is important to know when to stop arguing with people and simply let them be wrong.
