Dummy with a difference.

Post by SLB »

Sorry about the title I didn't know what else to call it.

I have just enquired elsewhere about starter pistols but was told about gundog dummies that had starter caps in that would bang when the dummy hit the floor?

Does anyone know if they still exist and where I can get one?

And if it fails to detonate? I shouldn't risk such a thing being subsequently detonated in the dogs mouth - it might put it off for good. Get a starting pistol, any darn thing can be used as a dummy and you certainly don't need gimmicks. I just made a few dummies up from bits of branch, wrapped in pipe insulation, covered in an old sock with dried widgeon wings dangling off them. I bet any half decent dog would preffer my freebies to something that might explode in its gob!

If you train in a place were a starter is not legal or in appropriate shout "bang"

I don't think it was them hitting the floor that made a bang, it was somethign to do with throwing them. But I looked for them a while back and they didn't seem to catch on. Party poppers (with the stuffing out) are quite good for bangs in public places!

Kent, looking at SLB's avatar, she needs no help making or purchasing standard dummies. Good advice regarding the detonator subsequently going off in the dogs mouth though.

Its got a cord attached so when you throw it 'the pulling on the cord' instigates the pin which fires the blank ! .. it dosn't wait until it lands to bang !! :)

Knew I'd seen them being used before. The dog you hear briefly in this clip actually caught the dummy mid air. One way to cure running in!

I think the dummy you are thinking of is called The Dummy Shot.
When you throw it, the action of releasing the toggle fired the pin. It was selling for £50 and didn't catch on, I think it was discontinued.
