That depends on the stage the dogs at and the situation it arose in.

Lets not be too cryptic tjack. Cocker spaniel boy, a lot depends on how the dog reacts, I have a dog pup here at the moment that hunts a nice pattern, consequently I don't use a lot of whistle but if he ignores a whistle a gruff tone and a move towards him turns him. My oldest bitch I have chased over burns, walls and fences just to catch the bugger.... by the time I've done that I've not got much energy left to do anything!
