One of mine came back covered in blood earlier this month and had more or less ripped their stopper pad right off along with the dew claw on the opposite foot. Horrible when accidents happen in the middle of nowhere and I have no idea of knowing how she did it. Taken for ever to knit back together as well, even with stitches. Every time she extends her leg I guess it pulls a bit.
Lou ripped his carpel pad (stopper) this year. 2 weeks with a dressing on, cleaned twice a day. Then 2 weeks with it just being cleaned - I let it dry out. Took a month before I could take him out again but we did it - read online that people who's dogs had had stitches took longer for it to heal so just kept it clean and kept him as still as possible. I know what he did his on though - glass in the river - f**king teenagers drinking at night! Always see the remnants of them being there, so he doesn't go in at that part any more.

Wullie - I know, I found it hard to believe that she could get that cut but there was only thick brambles and gorse bushes there and another one that I don't know the name of which is our likeliest suspect - I checked all around the area she would've done it in and found nothing like broken sticks, nails or discarded wire. It's a mystery but our best guess is the bush that had thick branches with massive thorns on them.

Needless to say I'll be keeping my eye closer on her when we do this walk in the future. It's weird she was only gone literally 10 seconds, I'd called her back up the hill as I spotted a man walking his dog the other side of the fence. We waited, and it took 10 seconds from me to release her and get down the hill and sit on the banking for her to get injured.

Anyway thought I would update you on how she is now. The friend I was with yesterday has given me what was left over of his past dogs metacam whilst it's still in date. I know how to use it and dosages etc. She's managed a 3rd wee without too much wincing, but she still wants to tear arse up the garden. I can't take her out on the lead as she won't toilet if her lead is on and she gets a tad silly at first and starts jumping about. So I am glad I taught her steady - so she now walks up the path with me instead. I taught her all that well in advance for her spay which she had in May. So I'm glad it has stuck. She has managed to eat without coughing afterwards. I think they didn't take the tubes out quite so gently this time and she has had her ABs. She is also feeling much better -

A really poorly dog doesn't try to pull the sympathy card  And yes I have a heart of stone when it comes to my dinner - they've had theirs they can push off.

Could it of been a Blackthorn bush?
They have lethal thorns, had a few injuries both dog and human from them.

I think that might be what we saw today actually. Someone suggested that earlier but I forgot to google it till now.

We had a similar thing with a bitch of ours, a gash on the front of her chest/leg area, and never found out what caused it, the saving grace I guess in our case was it was on a less flappy skinned area and healed with 6 staples given without the need for anaesthetic, so relatively cheap and quick to deal with.
