Training Vests

Post by AJS »

I know there are several threads on this subject so my apologies in advance for starting another one.

Her who must be obeyed wants to buy me a training vest, we never made it to the Gamefair this year so missed the opportunity to visit some of the retailers or manufacturers.

I have trawled the internet and come up with the following.

1. Nomad Picking up/Training Vest
2. Country Covers Hawking Vest
3. Country Covers Shooting Vest
4. Country Covers Field Vest.
5. Blackgundogs Picking Up Vest
5. Jack Pyke Training vest

Opinions please from people who have purchased any of the above.

Thanks

Tony

I have the Nomad Picking vest for picking up....I can get a couple of partridges in each front pockets and seven or eight phezzies/ ducks in the back pocket. Easier on me back than game carriers I find...Until I have to cross a drain or dyke fully loaded that is....

Ron our keeper never ceases to be amused at emptying me bag when I get back or he spots me struggling and drives over to assist...

In my view as a training vest it's too large though, I too have the Sporting Saint training vest which I've had for several years, like and use daily...

I also like these http://www.sportingsaint.co.uk/product/1069 they sink into cover really well, dogs don't tend to roll em around like they do tennis balls and for a youngster you can get a release without going near their mouths unlike tennis balls. I can shove two in me pocket and use them as a reward for a fast sit etc I can chuck em a long way or drop em into cover without the dog seeing them... No vest required....

I've a Country Covers Field Vest. I asked for the front shoulder pads to be added so I use it as a skeet vest and for rough shooting. Its hard to describe but to access the back you don't need to reach around. Its like a double skin that comes around the front so you can slip your hand in next to the front zip to put/get what you want. They've gone up in price a bit since I bought mine

i echo the above. :-D In terms of whats the best, its personal choice. They're all different designs but do pretty much the same thing. I like my Black Gundog one though.

Quest do one which I liked and bought, however it is purely a training vest, I would not consider putting game into one.

I use a beretta cordura upland hunting vest that I brought in from the states. Great piece of kit and wearing really well. I have had it for four years and it's like new

Well finally settled on the Country Covers Shooting Vest.

I know it is expensive but at least it is dual purpose. (That's my excuse anyway)
