Labrador Breeding

Post by Gun & Dog »

Hi

I'm trying to find out the breeding of a Labrador that might be coming my way. The Sire is 'Maplehaze Brognor' and the Dam is 'Kisses On The Wind'. Any information anyone has on either the sire or the dam would be much appreciated.

Thanks

Here you go-

The sire is by OFTW Levenghyl Isle Of Mull ( FTCh Hamford Zealot Of Highseas x FTCh Glenpatrick Eve ) out of Rosarie Dram (Glorious Grouse x Nethercoy Jet Of Woolburn).

Levenghyl Isle Of Mull ran in the 2007 IGL, having won the Scottish Gundog Association Two day open.

Rosarie Dram has attained her stud book number so has at least a trial award (sorry not to be more specific there, perhaps someone else may know more?)

The Dam is by Mallowdale Pearl (FTCh Swinbrook Twig x Susie of Mallowdale) out of Longside Bess (FTCh Dargdaffin Archie x Howellwood Bonnie Lass).
cheers,
Alice.

Neither of them have had any health tests done, and the Sire of 'Maplehaze Brognor' has mild ED. I wouldn't go near it, but that's just me.

The sire is out of my friends field trial winning bitch who is a cracking bitch, his father is also another friend of mines dog, Isle of Mull, he was unlucky not to be made up to FTCh, he was a lovely dog, won many open tests and not a bad worker either ;) , I was unaware that an elbow score of 0/1 is mild ED, why do the KC say its alright to breed from them then?

The grading system is simple:
0 = Normal
1 = Mild ED
2 = Moderate ED or a primary lesion
3 = Severe ED

From the KC website;

"The current BVA/KC scoring scheme for elbow dysplasia (ED) was launched in 1998. Dysplasia means abnormal development, and the degree of elbow dysplasia present is indicated by a grade assigned to each elbow on a scale of 0 to 3 (0 being the best and 3 being the most severe). Only the highest grade of the two elbows is taken as the elbow grade for that dog. The minimum age for elbow grading is one year, and each dog is only ever graded once under the scheme. Advice to breeders is to use only those dogs with grades of 0, wherever possible."

The only Bitch by 'Levenghyl Isle Of Mull' to be tested for ED also has a score of 1.

Yeah, an elbow score of 1 has always meant mild ED...It confuses many people that hip scores are so details (0-53 on one side) but elbow scores only have 4 grades. I consider a '1' elbow akin to a single hip score of 10-20. Current best practice is to avoid breeding from 1's any more. But obviously taking in all other factors.
