whistle pitch

Post by Ben Smith »

Hi all,

Probably a simple question but do different breeds respond better to different pitch whistles? Or is it just for working more than one dog?

What would you recommend for a Springer?

Thanks
Ben

I use 210.5 but did start with 211 only changed because i like the sound more of the 210.5! So really a personal pref in my opinion but im sure someone with alot more experiance will maybe explain more. It has been covered before so try the search and im sure you will find what your after Damien.

It doesn't make a bit of difference to the dog only to the handler ....and perhaps to field trial judges ?

I think it does. I've see Spaniels not introduced to a whistle before respond to the 210.5, but not the 211.5.

Qest, awfully nice of you to search on the word "whistle" so that it comes up highlighted in pink.

Also allows me get in a plug for a good cause and the whistle I happen to use in supporting that cause: http://www.dogsafield.com/Pink-Dallesas ... kRwoH9yZn4

I don't know how they could ignore the 211.5. I have been training with retriever guys and thats what they use and I'll tell ya - it rings in the ears hahaha. I sound like I have a baby whistle when I pull out my 210.5

Cass I've never seen a retriever trainer in North America yet use a 211.5 for trialing or even training - are you sure about that? The 211.5 is not much more audible than the 210.5 - google a photo of it (the 211.5) to be sure that's what they're using.

Just to clarify: Megawhistles, Green Monsters, and the Dallesasse as I've linked to above are the order of the day amongst our kind, with the occasional Fox 40 thrown in. If Kraka and the boys are using anything Acme, except the Thunderer, I'm all ears to hear about it, just not sure the dogs are. ;)

No theirs are loud. My bad, I thought those ones were the 211.5s. They drown out my little spaniel whistle haha
