UPDATE She's home! Re: Seasonal Canine Illness - Oct 13

Post by JAN »

Skye was released from the vet hospital yesterday evening. Had hoped for her to come home Friday but when I went to visit her she had just been sick so they wanted to keep her in overnight. The difference between Friday at 6pm and Saturday at 6pm was amazing back to normal wiggly cocker who promptly dragged me out of the surgery to the truck.

Kept her in the house last night; has eaten two small meals since we go home, antibiotics for a week and a check up on Wednesday................ fingers still crossed but we look as if we have got through this. The vets have been brilliant. Phew!

Phew, what a relief that she is now better. Was it SCI?

That's what our vets treated her for. Waiting to hear from the AHT in Newmarket as to whether they can confirm it one way or other......

I had a lab about 5 years ago, just as SCI became recognised as a problem, who became extremely ill with exactly the same symptoms. I couldn't understand how or why he was so ill. We'd been on holiday to Norfolk, returned on the Friday and by Sunday morning I had an extremely sick dog. I kept his fluids up during that day with a syringe (without the needle of course!) into his mouth and took him to the vet first thing on the Monday morning. He didn't eat for several days and I'd say it took a good 10 days before he was anything like normal again. The thing is he did not have any harvest mites on him - unless of course one bit him which I didn't know about! I'm off to Norfolk again in a couple of weeks and I'll definitely get a frontline spray from the vet before I go!
