Catapult attack on a gundog, CCTV can work?

Post by Big John »

Catapult attack on a gundog, after a lot of local publicity and a CCTV video on YouTube a man was arrested and charged but did he get away with it?

The Video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GjtYO1zGYpA

The punishment: http://www.henleystandard.co.uk/news/ne ... id=1354375

What do you think?

He was fined £110 and ordered to pay £100 compensation, a £20 victim surcharge and £85 costs.
It doesn’t send out the correct message.
^^^I'd agree

The magistrate missed a wonderful opportunity to set an example and send a message that such abuse will not be tolerated.

Glad the dog was OK

What a piece of sh*t that man is. That looked like a puppy in a run that he fired at from just 3-4 feet away.

The other point I did not make clear is CCTV worked in this case and could be useful with recovering stolen dogs as well.

Beyond belief, what goes on in the heads of people like this, and the punishment was a joke if he had stolen some bread from Tesco he would have had a bigger fine.

Totally agree the punishment is a joke but at least he got caught. As for what I'd like to do to him, best not say on a public forum.

Sadly I doubt that BJ, we have CCTV sited at various points but if the thieves are determined and covered their faces it’s more or less useless and in all honesty I’ve often thought it would probably only afford me the “pleasure” of watching my dogs being stolen and the time the incident occurred. :( We have alarms fitted which come through too if certain contact points are broken which would also alert me.

Having said that it is handy to be able to view them from work and I might be able to contact a close neighbour if a problem occurred and be home in less than 7 minutes. Because of the length of our drive it would possibly identify a vehicle, certainly model and colour but if the plates were false.........

Would it deter, hopefully if they were aware and they might just move on to an easier location elsewhere. The best deterrent here in Deepest Darkest is I think the lack of infrastructure and long may that continue, pain in the butt though when you’re travelling anywhere.

Whilst ever it is not treated as a serious crime by the police and goes to the very bottom of the pile these folk are going to continue to risk it.
