absolutely. i cant add anything more than what everyone else has said.AJS wrote:The magistrate missed a wonderful opportunity to set an example and send a message that such abuse will not be tolerated.
Glad the dog was OK
i always thought that with CCTV. Do they really serve any purpose?Rascal wrote:Sadly I doubt that BJ, we have CCTV sited at various points but if the thieves are determined and covered their faces it’s more or less useless and in all honesty I’ve often thought it would probably only afford me the “pleasure” of watching my dogs being stolen and the time the incident occurred.Big John wrote:The other point I did not make clear is CCTV worked in this case and could be useful with recovering stolen dogs as well.We have alarms fitted which come through too if certain contact points are broken which would also alert me.
Having said that it is handy to be able to view them from work and I might be able to contact a close neighbour if a problem occurred and be home in less than 7 minutes. Because of the length of our drive it would possibly identify a vehicle, certainly model and colour but if the plates were false.........![]()
Would it deter, hopefully if they were aware and they might just move on to an easier location elsewhere. The best deterrent here in Deepest Darkest is I think the lack of infrastructure and long may that continue, pain in the butt though when you’re travelling anywhere.
Whilst ever it is not treated as a serious crime by the police and goes to the very bottom of the pile these folk are going to continue to risk it.

Every little of information helps, you should have the cameras positioned out of reach and out of site when possible but in a position where they will capture as much detail as possible, that includes any driveway or access they may use as a VIN number is always handy, use continues recording don’t rely on motion detection.i always thought that with CCTV. Do they really serve any purpose?
Publicity is also very important, get it into the local papers, local radio, Facebook and Youtube along with any stills and video if you have been lucky to capture, the police are more likely to act if you have a lot of publicity and the public on your side.

Agree to a certain extent that CCTV does help, but while ever joke sentences like this are being handed out dog crime will continue to happen.
You have to ask yourself what goes through someone like thats head to fire a catapult at a dog in a kennel..... what was he hoping to achieve/gain from doing such a horrific thing??
The mind boggles!

I have to agree the penalty for this type of crime is a joke considering the heartache it puts owners through and if it’s a working dog the consequences are even worse.
What went through his head, well that’s simple to answer the dog was making a lot of noise and he was trying to shut it up so him and his mates waiting in the van could steal the dogs.

If there was no market for stolen dogs this sort of thing would stop immediately.......Whilstever folk's are gullible enough buy dogs from people like this, they will carry on.......

Ridiculous sentence, makes my blood boil.
Glad to hear the dog is OK.
At least now we have a name so if there are further incidents or thefts in the area there is a starting point for enquiries.
What about his associates? They are just as guilty.
