I guess the question is, was the dog everything he was made out to be? And are is offspring all that aswell?
How is the dog in question bred anyhow?

If if if if!!!PLG wrote:No there aren't. Working cockers are more inbred than the average panellist on a Jerry Springer special about incest. Well bred and (mostly) happy and healthy, yes. For now. Cross all your fingers and toes that all the ultra-popular sires like Barlow and, in the ESS world, Kurt, aren't carrying anything nasty and recessive. (This is NOT a health test rant btw, since some of the worst stuff, like IOHC, has no current official test). In a way, the KC ban on close matings could have the unintended effect of recessive genes taking more generations to meet up and cause problems, so more offspring and great-offspring on the ground before a problem becomes apparent. If, for example, Kurt was a carrier for a genetic problem, he would have more descendants than Genghis Khan before anyone caught on. Maybe the ESS health reporting project on the Welcome thread - whereby you can report any problem or death in any ESS individual, health-testable or not, KC reg or not, will provide a useful database.beechessam wrote: there's plenty of choice plenty of lines
Well off topic now, but I suspect the OP has all the info they want about Kurt. Does the last section of this thread need to be moved to a "popular sire syndrome" thread?
Fact is it was not that long ago that very few people were breeding cockers. The odd die hards kept it going, most lines go back to these dogs for generations, not dog generations but humans. If there was a problem it would have shown by now.
However there are many more lines available today than 5,10,20 years ago. Big names kennels with their own lines some without cross over into others.
I actually believe health test could be as dangerous if not more dangerous to the breeds than not testing.
Re: Hollydrive Kurt
So far we have cataracts, luxating patellas, hip dysplasia, IOHC in Cockers, lets hope there aren't too many more problems lurking in these lovely dogs. But again, we are well off topic. I might even get around to splitting it off later, if yer lucky!
In life, it is important to know when to stop arguing with people and simply let them be wrong.

Thanks for that craigavonjoeDavid wrote:Register here https://www.mykc.org.uk/ Once you sign in go to 'Tool & Resources' and then 'Look Up a Dog'.PLG wrote:Where on the KC website can you find out how many litters/pups have been sired by a certain dog? When I was looking for a cocker pup I used the cockerspanieldatabase.info site and you can see the names of all the offspring, but I don't think they're all on there. (Timsgarry Barlow credited with 137 pups there...don't know how many he has actually sired).craigavonjoe wrote:According to the english Kennel Club he has had 6 litters first one being 25th July 2012.....this does not take into account the Irish Kennel Club, so it would probably be double that ......
Re: Hollydrive Kurt
I've got a Kurt pup. Very very easy little bitch. Soft enough to make her very biddable but not too soft.
Re: Hollydrive Kurt
