Kronch and skinners? Or raw?

Post by Jonesylass »

Hi all

Ive been feeding my 4 month old setter pup on skinners puppy , she does well on it but she always has runny poo which makes cleaning the kennel tricky and she seems to be always hungry and we feed her well over the guideline. Has anyone else experienced this? Is it normal? Is there a better alternative?

Thought about csj puppy? Or even raw to the setter and an adult cocker that is currently on kronch basic, he isnt as shiny and energetic as he used to be..
How do i feed raw? What to feed? How much?

Any help would be much appreciated!

The nice thing about feeding raw is that because they are fed raw bone they are less likely to have runny poo!

Mine are fed a piece of chicken - bone in - for their breakfast.

In the evening they get minced meat - I get mine frozen from Berriewood.

This basic diet is supplemented with fish and any other type of meat/offal that I have available.

Once you have been feeding raw for a while you get used to feeding by feel as such, and if they are carrying too much condition I would just up the bone content. If they are a bit thin then I up the fat and meat content.

If the pup has diarrhoea it is going to be hungry because the food is expelled before the nutrients can be absorbed.
If the poop is gray colored, you are over feeding.
Skip a meal, feed half ration next few meals.
see if this slows, stops diarrhoea.
if yes, you may be feeding too much, so cut back

alternately switch food brands very slowly over several days.

Check with the vet, especially if blood tinged stools are present, or diarrhoea persists.
If you value you dog do not hesitate contacting your vet. It is worth the fees.

Have you followed a worming programme with her?

The poo isnt diarrhoea its just very soft off the pup. Should i mix some kronch in that might make it better?

She is worm free and has been wormed since we got here regularly as directed by our vet.

Is feeding raw expensive? Does anyone know..?

Just to be on the safe side I'd discuss this problem with your vet, you say in your other post that she's messing in her sleeping box too which is unusual as most dogs don't mess in their sleeping quarters. I'm just wondering if there is some underlying problem.....

Some dogs do well on a diet that another dog does not do well on. Yours obviously needs to change, so why not try Kronch as you are already using it on your other dog. You should try to feed a food with a reasonably high meat content, so many foods have too much cereal and this can cause loose stools. I believe the Kronch has a good level of meat/fish so it is worth a go. The Kronch Optimal is suitable for puppies.

Depends where you source your ingredients from. I currently pay between £10-£15 per month for my four large retrievers. They get a mixture of chicken, pork, beef and some lamb bones, green tripe, and I make my own offal mince with fish and other things in there. And they also get green tripe fresh from the abattoir.
