Blood In Urine..

Post by Merlin »

Before Christmas we had my In-Laws dogs to stay while they went off on holiday.

While they were with us one of them had an "accident" in the house, well actually nearly flooded the dog room, great big wee and obviously had blood in it, it was very pink.
:(
Got him off to the vets the next day.
He was checked over and given a course of antibiotics and a sample sent off for analysis.
In-Laws were back before any results were back so they took over with the vet.
He’s had, the antibiotics, some drugs for his prostate, as that “seemed” a little enlarged, scans, xrays and more scans, oh and more bloods done. The vet has found absolutely nothing wrong, the test have come back with absolutely no indications of anything wrong.
The dog, he’s a Cocker, from show lines, is absolutely fine in himself, he’s never appeared to be ill in any way, if he hadn’t pee’d in the house we would never have know.
We’ve got absolutely no issues with the vet, we go to the same place, he has been very thorough and has worked his way through the all tests in a systematic way.
Now, the In-Laws show one of their dogs and have discussed this problem with people as they go, as you would, and 2 different people have mentioned having the same thing and that it just cleared up all by itself….

Just curious to know if anybody on here has had a similar experience or has any ideas about it?

I have no idea.
But my hunch would be a kidney stone passed.

Maybe one of the Vet colleges would take on the mystery for their clinics.

could've just been a kidney/urinary tract infection which the antibiotics saw off?
cheers,
Alice.

Sorry, forgot to mention still blood visible now...
Seems to come and go though, vet's thinking that the drugs given for his prostate are slowly working their magic..

It may have been something which has 'cleared up by itself' and blood in dogs urine is not nearly as serious a symptom as blood in human urine but it should be thoroughly investigated. Very, very occasionally the blood is there for no reason at all that can be detected; that's called idiopathic haematuria. But better to rule out infections, crystals, stones, cancer etc. Was the prostate disease diagnosed just on examination or were bloods done? There is a test for BHP now.

Thanks for asking, he's my father in laws dog and he's currently having a lovely time on holiday in Spain, alright for some hey!!

He's been for another scan at a specialist with a more powerful machine and he's confirmed everything that the vet has said, he found nothing to be concerned about...

Heard from them in Spain and they think that his wee seems to be clearing up over the last few days, so let's see how they go...

I think 23° and sunshine would do me the world of good at this time of year as well!

Would certainly do me the world of good - haven't seen that yellow thing in the sky for nearly 3 months. Wind, storms, rain, hail we have had plenty of and a bit of snow.
