leather slip lead (specially made)

Post by ramona »

Hi

I have been doing some heelwork, but the slip lead Ive got now leaves me with fat blisters! I have tried different ones, and the trainer I have reccommended some specially made (saddle) leather leads (and they are much softer on the hands). I cant find anyone who makes them close by, so I was wondering if anyone knows of a guy I could contact or online site to go to?

cheers

Training heel work shouldn’t leave you with fat blisters, something’s going wrong along the way there...............

If you’ve got a confirmed puller on your hands then have a look here..... viewtopic.php?f=30&t=16268

Blisters??  How do you get blisters? Anyhow, good luck finding the leather one, i LOVE them but keep losing them so now no one even wants to give them to me as a gift because i drop them too quick.

I always use leather - only lost one in 17 years
I make my own but there are lots of places you can get them - have you Googled?
Karenswood are very good - that's where I go to if I ever buy anything

Thanks for the advice but I just want to find a lead that is more comfortable, the one I have now has a surface more like sand-paper ..

Oh, and thank you everyone else for your help . I will look into google as well. I just find it easier asking here first instead of buying the first and best I come across

I had a trainer that insisted on a 'traditional' approach to heelwork (sort of pull back until she gives up), it did not work very well because she pulled a lot and did not understand the concept. Now, I have actually got much better results clicker training her, but the blisters are not healed Im afraid :?

I can't believe any one getting blisters from a Gundog! Has been said something not right. Best part of 30 yrs ago we used to teach big heavy GSD's "the old fashioned" way of "necking" them into submission, but never managed blisters!

.... what's already been said :? but I would get a round leather NOT rolled leather; they last longer, soften up more quickly and are more comfortable to use. Also, shop around, there's no need to pay a fortune ... I didn't, but unfortunately I can't remember where I got mine, sorry

Blisters!!? Seriously? apologies if I seem blunt but I would suggest getting some outside input, it's not the lead that needs attention.

On leads. I get mine made from old bridle leather, they are beautifully supple and easy to handle.

Please people, stick to the topic! I have already explained what happened, so no need to become hysterical about it. As for what needs attention I can assure you it is the leash that caused my blisters.. it is absolutely horrible; I trained with her for 10 minutes and got them! It might be a combination of delicate lady hands and some pulling on the lead I don't know.. Perhaps I should have videotaped it for you to believe me?

round leather, that is what I am looking for! anyone else got these, and know where I could get one?
