Just thought I’d share this as I found it amusing and sad in equal measure.........
On my route to work there is a really nice old bloke who sells lovely free range eggs with an honesty box. I called in this morning to return my empties and pick up a dozen. I occasionally see him for a chat and when I asked him a long while ago why he did it as it’s unusual to see these days. He said he does it because he enjoys keeping chickens, his wife died a few years ago and he enjoys a natter and this provides him with the opportunity. He also said that so far he’d not been subject to theft and folks in the main were to be trusted and if you treated folk’s right they returned the compliment.
Anyhow this morning there was an acetated printed sign saying “Would the thieving b***ard who’s nicking my eggs please stop! Otherwise I’ll be forced to leave my mean bugger of a cockerel totally free range and he’s a force to be reckoned with”. My mind boggled at the thought of this cockerel being used as a guard dog and what breed he was?
And saddened that after all these years some mean b***er is spoiling it for him and potentially his so far honest customers....
You know Rascal, it really is sad that someone can do that! It just goes to prove we live in a shocking world, fortunately not everyone is the same, what happened to the "Good old days"? Hopefully the offender/s poison themselves!
I think I'd deliberately rot a few eggs and let the barsteward steal them.

.
We had an egg thief of a different variety today - more of an opportunist rather than thieving scum....
OH collected the eggs from the quail and put them on the roof of the pen whilst he let the chickens out. Literally 2 minutes was all it took and a thieving magpie with two mature fledglings had taken the eggs!
I am not a fan of magpies but I couldn't begrudge them the eggs as they have made us laugh with their ridiculous antics over the past couple of weeks.

It is sad, I used to get eggs from down one of the local lanes outside Andover, (had a choice as well, sometimes duck eggs, sometimes bantam eggs but always chicken eggs) until one day they were no longer there. Happened to see the owner one day and stopped to enquire about it, turns out someone stole all the eggs for a week straight so she stopped doing it. Had a nice little chat and turned out the eggs were just helping her pension go that little bit further, I did offer to buy from her directly but she no longer had them.
