Or how will you feel if he takes it out and wins with it, like mine did!!.... LOL VERY happy actually. :)
It's rewarding to see your partner work a dog you have trained and enjoy it. Yes, there is the potential for little issues to crop up. But a little 'brush up' training with both him and the dog could be done periodically perhaps?!.....

Thanks for all your opinions, much appreciated. My husband trained our old springer to a really good standard whereas I have never done any gundog training before, but desperately want to give it a go, just have to convince him now that I 'need' a pup! We have 2 8 year old show cocker bitches and he thinks they're really bad. They're not, they're really well behaved, (walk to heel on and off lead, don't pull, fab recall etc) just not gundog trained and he is convinced if we got a gundog they would ruin him. I don't think so as all his training would be done seperately to the girls, they do bark when someone comes to the house but that's it really. Please tell me he's not right on this one or I'm going to have to wait another 5 or 6 years for my pup!

He's not right! :60: Honest, yes the pup may get some unwanted behaviors around home, like barking when people come for example but it doesn't carry out in the field and into your training if you just pay the same attention as you always will with any pup you want to train. Go for it I'd say and enjoy every second of it! Who knows what will have happened in 5-6 years making it difficult for you to get a pup for another reason then? So what if it doesn't get perfect for one or another reason? You will have lots of fun and learn lots and get a whole new community to spend time with outdoors.

Make sure you go for working bloodlines this time, not show. ;)

Yes I know, at the time we got the girls OH was having a break from shooting so I got the show type as they are less hyper, one of the traits I hope they pass on to pup, at least in the house! Lol
