Puppy on raw

Post by cselley »

Hi I'm feeding my new gap pup on raw as my older gap has done so well on it. My only question is.. As a pup it seems the amount guide is 10% of his body weight, as an adult it's 2/3%, at which point to I alter from 1 to the other? He'll be 18kg in a some months time but surely 1.8kg is too much? Yet he won't be an adult... Catch my drift?

So, if he happens to be 10% or 20% overweight do you still stick to the guidelines? Every dog is different, so feed to condition. If the pup is carrying weight then cut down, if looking a bit thin or workload increasing, then feed more, but do it by degrees.

Feeding guides are just that, guides. If your pup is looking too fat cut his intake, if he's looking to thin increase it. Not sure how old he is but i assume you're feeding him more than once daily.

I have 5 month old pups here that were weaned onto raw. I have never weighed their food to be honest, just feed by eye and appetite!

Yes he's having 3/4 small feeds throughout the day. Yeah I guess common sense will prevail with amounts. He was quite a bit smaller than my first dog, not sure if this will have a lasting effect on him or whether he'll catch up sooner or later. Each to their own I guess

three times daily is fine, don't overfeed. If he doesn't finish take it away.
