Does anyone have any experience with the Nissan Terrano? I'm guessing there's probably a good reason I don't see many of them around, but I told my mate that I wanted a SWB cheap 4x4 and he reckons he's seen one of these locally for what seems a too-good-to-be-true price... I'm working on the assumption it's going to be a bag of spanners but I'd like to be proved wrong

No personal experience but one of the syndicate members drove one for years and didn't spare its blushes, said the worst thing he ever did was get rid of it in favour of a Jeep..

As far as small offroaders go, they are good ones.Alice wrote:So I'll start me own!

Friend has one for towing horses but she's frightened to get rid as nothing on the new market that compares.

Really? There is no better towing vehicle than the V8 Disco. It beats the Shogun by some margin. But to be fair, you can't compare the market segment of small 4x4 vehicles in the OP with the big offroaders.Tungulria wrote:Friend has one for towing horses but she's frightened to get rid as nothing on the new market that compares.

Landrover Freelander 1, TD4 comes with a BMW diesel engine which is bomb proof.
It all depends on how much real offroading you want it for, get some AT tyres and it will go most places.
Get a low milage and FSH example and you will be fine, you can get at least 4 labs in the back.

Auto box is even better but you do need a post 2002 model and I suspect the Terrano will be much cheaper! Terranos were good vehicles in their day, not too wide for country lanes, unlike most 4x4s but can you still get spares for them? Another old cheapy which comes highly recommended is the Daihatsu Four-track, couple of my friends have them and swear by them although I did drive past one stuck in the mud when I had my auto Freelander, didn't allow him to forget that for ages!
I didn't attempt to stop and pull him out either that might have been a step too far.

In life, it is important to know when to stop arguing with people and simply let them be wrong.

Just a thought but another nice little offroader making waves is the new Suzuki Jimny. Also worth a look if you're looking at the smaller vehicles.
